Similar story:

A friend of mine was in line at Wendy's to order food. A woman in front of him turned around, gave him a $10 bill and said "Lunch is on me." He then put that money in the donation box at the register.

It's nice to see kindness exists! Though, I suspect it is much more common in the rest of the world.

I can imagine how students' reaction like. I have hard time to ask a question even after being six years in the States, I get my heart beat faster if I try to say something in the class room. I think the best way is that you somehow show them how to question. They would learn what kind of questions would be meaningful to ask. Even they may not be able to do it now, I think it will help them in a long-run. I am sure many of them have good questions in their head. I look forward to your updating about teaching in Thailand:)

Interesting. Perhaps it would be the "National Geographic" effect? Sometimes printed "research" or "fact" doesn't turn out to be so. It'll be interesting for you to see how the culture meshes with your teaching style, as well as how it matches the "traditional" behavior expected of Thai culture.
